Here are some highlights from our Sustainability Events calendar for the week of Feb. 2, 2015. If you know of any events which should be added, let us know.

All week

  • It's RecycleMania kickoff week! UW Recycling will be on Red Square every day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with games and free donuts, as well as information on the RecycleMania competition. On Wednesday, look for a special appearance from Dubs! (Red Square, 11 a.m.)

Monday

  • Dr. Renee Robinette Ha, from UW's Department of Psychology, will be presenting on "Behavior and conservation: the decline of the Mariana crow" for the Wildlife Seminar of the week. (Smith 120, 3:30 p.m.)
  • UW Botanic Gardens will be presenting on how to buzz up your garden by hosting your own Mason Orchard Bees. They're non-stinging, native, and great pollinators. (Center of Urban Horticulture, Douglas Classroom, 6:30 p.m.)

Tuesday

  • SEFS will be hosting a seminar on "The Role of Trees in Modifying Water Chemistry" by Professor Emeritus Bob Edmonds. (Andersen 223, 8:30 a.m.).
  • Megan Bang, from the UW Department of Education, will be discussing "Cultural Aspects of Climate Communication" for the weekly Program of Climate Change seminar. (OSB 425, 3:30 p.m.)
  • The IGERT Program on Ocean Change will be hosting Malin Pinsky, from Princeton University. She will be presenting on "Impacts of Climate Velocity on Coastal Marine Communities". (Fisheries 102, 4:30 p.m.)
  • The School of Public Health will be hosting a presentation and discussion on cleaning up the Duwamish River. (West Seattle Chaco Canyon Cafe, 7 p.m.)

Wednesday

  • It's the first Wednesday of the month, so that means it's time for the HUB's lost and found sale. Stop by the main information desk in the HUB from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to find yourself a reusable water bottle or USB flash drive, along with other miscellaneous items. (The HUB, 8 a.m.)
  • Every Wednesday, you have the opportunity to exercise AND help out by volunteering at the UW Farm. (Mercer Court, 11 a.m.).
  • Eat and talk about food at UW Farm's weekly Farm Lunch Seminar. This week's topic is "Farm to Table at UW". (Wallace 120, 12:30 p.m.)
  • Professor Peter Khan will be discussing the "Interaction Pattern Design for Urban Sustainability" in this SEFS weekly seminar. (Anderson 223, 3:30 p.m.)

Thursday

  • UW Farm will be hosting a potluck at 8 a.m, followed by an 8:30 class on planting rotation, concluding with volunteering hours at 9:30. (Botany Greenhouse, 8:30 a.m.)
  • In a clash of global health, nutrition, and sustainability, Dr. Jonathan Mayer will be presenting "Global Nutrition: Food for the Bottom Billion". (Alder Auditorium (104), 12:30 p.m.)
  • The Bevan Series this week will be addressing "the current state of inter-sectoral allocation in US fisheries management". (Fishery Science Auditorium, 4:30 p.m.)
  • Sit down and enjoy the trip that director Werner Boote will take you on as he ventures the globe, illustrating the damage plastics have caused on people and the environment. Screening is free for UW associated peeps. (Gould 332, 6:30 p.m.)
