Seattle Race to Zero Waste

Seattle Public Utilities is looking for ideas to reduce waste in our community. This contest is open to everyone who lives, works, or goes to school in Seattle, and prizes are available. The deadline to enter is November 14, 2023.

The Race to Zero Waste Competition is an opportunity to make a difference in Seattle for generations to come. The contest is NOT looking for business proposals or models - just great ideas about how to prevent waste! To enter, just answer a few simple questions and tell us about your idea to reduce waste in your community or school. Entries will be scored on the following criteria: 

  • Project Goal: How well did the idea address waste prevention? (5 points)
  • Creativity/Innovation: How creative and innovative is the waste prevention idea? (5 points)
  • Community Involvement: How does the idea involve others or take inspiration from the school or community? (5 points)
  • Environmental Impact: How does the idea positively affect the environment? (5 points)
  • Implementation: How actionable is the idea? Can it be maintained? (5 points)
