The first annual UW Safety, Sustainability, and Preparedness Expo turned out to be a fantastic event, with about 550 guests stopping by the HUB to learn from more than 70 exhibitors. The expo showcased a variety of environmental- and safety-related programs and initiatives on campus, connecting sustainability and safety through a variety of departments. It was also a great event to link faculty, staff and students as well!
Last week, I was part of UW Sustainability's team at the first UW Safety, Sustainability, and Preparedness Expo, letting UW community members know about our Green Certification prgrams for offices and labs on campus.

A mountain of cookies and thermoses full of coffee gave the dozens of students, faculty, and community members who gathered in Johnson Hall an energy boost as they prepared to learn about the future of the U.S. energy industry and a transition away from coal.
The UW Sustainability office is looking for a web developer to continue to develop a newly-launched interactive online interface for the Green Certification programs (green-certification.uw.edu), including improvements to the editing and end-user interfaces, new reporting tools and notifications as well as other improvement.
Beginning February 8, the University of Washington will be competing for the fourth year in RecycleMania - a friendly tournament where national college campuses compete during the course of eight weeks to see which can reduce, reuse and recycle the most on-campus waste. The UW will take on nationwide universities including Pac-12 rivals Arizona State University, Stanford, University of California Berkeley, University of Oregon and Washington State University.
