Team Mission: The Tower Green Team mission is to promote environmental sustainability; to educate employees about environmental sustainability and encourage them to adopt sustainable practices, both at home and at work; and to collaborate with related UW offices to promote environmental sustainability initiatives on the UW campus.

Team Accomplishments:

  • Arranged to have Full Circle Farm deliveries made to UW Tower, for employees
  • Arranged a screening of the film "Good Food", with the filmakers on hand to address attendees
  • Switched coffee on UWEO floors from standard pre-packaged to organic, shade grown.
  • Started collecting misprinted and discarded paper which is made into scratch pads for staff and student use
  • Formulated paper use and office supply buying guidelines for UWEO
  • Formulated guidelines for green internal meetings
  • Started a patio display garden which replaced ivy in patio containers with herbs, fruiting plants, medicinal plants, and local and xeriscape plants
  • Sponsored several "locavore" lunches featuring produce grown in the patio garden & in member gardensSponsored two lingonberry crepe events, showcasing berries that are grown in the patio garden
  • Sponsored a seed starting event, helping employees to start their own herb gardens
  • Sponsored a strawberry ice cream social to highlight berries being grown in the patio garden
  • Started a program to collect plastic bottle caps & jar lids for re-use by a cosmetic company
  • Placed collection bins on some UW Tower floors for plastic film recycling
  • Collected eyeglasses to send to the Lions Club for re-use in underserved communities
  • After successfully managing the compost program for 4 years through volunteers, collection was recently taken over by UW tower custodians
