Here are some highlights from our Sustainability Events calendar for the week of Jan. 26, 2015. If you know of any events which should be added, let us know.

Monday

  • The Center of Environmental Politics hosts its first colloquium of the year, inviting Robert Keohane of Princeton University on "The Global Politics of Climate Change." (Allen Library 480/Petersen Room, 12:00 p.m.)
  • The Wildlife Science Seminar of the week will be on "diagnosing marine mortality for juvenile salmon in the Puget Sound," featuring Professor David Beauchamp. (Smith 120, 3:30 p.m.)

Tuesday

  • There will be an iPOC (IGERT Program on Ocean Change) Seminar on "Climate Induced Migration: Defining the Problem, Identifying Solutions" by Maxine Burkett, Associate Professor of Law at the University of Hawai'i. (Fisheries 102, 4:30 p.m.)
  • Bright and early, ESRM will be hosting an 8:30 a.m. seminar on "Water, Soils, and Watersheds." (Anderson Hall, 223).
  • From the Stockholm Environment Institute, Carrie Lee will be giving a seminar on "The Journal Article vs. the Policy Brief: How to get the attention of policy makers." (OSB 425, 3:30 p.m.).
  • Interested in an opportunity to apply all that information you've been learning in your classes? Attend an information session regarding the Wildlands Studies field project where students can join a backcountry team working on various environmental and ecology projects. And yes, pizza will be provided. (Anderson 22, 4 p.m.)

Wednesday

  • Start getting involved with the food movement here at UW, beginning with the weekly farm lunch seminar, presented this week by Elizabeth Wheat, Ph.D. - "Corn, a farmer's reflection" (Wallace 120, 12:30).
  • Stressed out about finding a job after college? Probably. But get a head start with second annual Science Job and Internship Fair! Please prepare with business casual attire and a handy resume. (Mary Gates Hall Commons, 2 p.m.)
  • For your weekly SEFS seminar, Professor Renata Bura will be discussing "Novel feedstocks for fuels and chemical production: Technology, economics, and environmental sustainability." (Anderson 223, 3 p.m.)

Thursday

  • UW Farm's weekly education series, FarmEd, will be discussing soil amendments. A breakfast potluck at 8 a.m. will then be followed by an hour long class at 8:30, and then be concluded by volunteering opportunities at the Farm's greenhouse. (Botany Greenhouse, 8:30 a.m.)
  • The Global Nutrition and Food Justice seminar this week will be on "The Role of the University District Food Bank in Promoting Food Justice". (Alder Commons, 12:30 p.m.)
  • Professor Antonio Conejo, from Ohio State University, will be giving a lecture regarding the movement "towards fully renewable electrical energy systems." (EEB 125, 4 p.m.)
  • The Bevan Series this week will feature "Addressing why marine reserves fail: turning marine conservation on its head". (Fishery Science Auditorium, 4:30 p.m.)

Friday

  • Wayne Pacelle, CEO and president of the Humane Society of the United States, will be presenting on the importance of "Animal Protection in the 21st Century: Finding Clarity in our Tangled and Contradictory Relationship with Animals". (Henry Art Gallery, 7 p.m.)
