About RecycleMania

Hundreds of universities track and submit their recycle, compost and landfill rates from February 7 —April 2 2016. The RecycleMania organization then compiles all the results weekly and ranks each campus against their peers in several categories. Read more about the categories and the competition by visiting the RecycleMania website.

Overview and Responsibilities

The University of Washington has a goal of reaching 70% waste diversion by 2020. The RecycleMania Student Planning Committee will play an integral role in helping UW meet that goal by engaging the campus community to recycle and compost more during the competition period.

The committee members will be expected to meet as a group weekly during winter quarter every Friday afternoon from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM, starting on Friday, January 8th. They will plan projects and/or activities to work on before and during the competition to help the University beat our PAC-12 rivals. Committee members will have an opportunity to work with various groups on campus including the UW Sustainability Office, Housing and Food Services, Intercollegiate Athletics and UW Recycling.
