Hello! I’m Zander Lyskin, a junior majoring in entrepreneurship. I’m excited to get to work with UW Sustainability as the Goodbiz blogger and get to learn how UW and its affiliates are practicing good business by reducing their environmental impact and creating inclusive workspaces. Hello friends! My name is Sydney Solis and I’m stoked to join the UW Sustainability team as a GoodBiz blogging intern. I’m double degreeing in Business and Community, Environment, and Planning (CEP), as well as doing the Spanish track of the International Business Certificate, all in the hopes of using business as a catalyst for social and environmental change. I’m incredibly passionate about the intersection between sustainability and business, which I’m excited to explore even more by writing for the GoodBiz blog!
UW Sustainability is looking for a student graphic design assistant Fall 2018 (with an opportunity to start in summer 2018). This is a part-time position for a current student. The graphic design assistant will work closely with the UW Sustainability team to develop marketing communications materials that educate and engage the UW community regarding sustainability programs and initiatives.
The College of the Environment is hosting a conversation on how UW groups can improve our connections with diverse communities on May 18, 1-4 p.m. in HUB 145.
It's time for Bike Everywhere Month! May is a great time to break out the bicycles and celebrate biking. UW Transportation Services has several events happening throughout the month, and everyone is encouraged to join the Bike Everywhere Challenge and track your rides throughout the month.
Students who are interested in the green building industry have an opportunity to attend a LEED Green Associate training session on campus Saturday, May 5, from 1-5 p.m. in Loew Hall room 112.
LeadingGreen is hosting the training, which prepares students to take the LEED Green Associate exam administered by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Civil and Environmental Engineering students got hands-on experience with energy conservation and renewable energy this winter.
A class taught by assistant professor Amy Kim used a small solar-power installation on More Hall to power everyday office equipment, such as a computer and table lamp. The course looks at developing sustainability strategies for buildings which promote the health and wellness of the occupants.
The University of Washington is partnering with Cupanion to reward students each time they fill a reusable mug instead of using a disposable cup.
The SEED student group has partnered with Housing and Food Services to make Cupanion stickers available starting this week. With the sticker and a downloadable smartphone app, each time you fill your reusable mug scan the bar code in the app and earn point toward rewards such as gift cards.
SEED is tabling in various locations around campus this week and handing out the Cupanion stickers.

Join us for the upcoming Green Certification Workshop Wednesday on April 4 from 1:30-2 p.m. in Gerberding Hall room G26 (one floor down from the Red Square entrance).
The Summer Institute on Sustainability and Energy (SISE) is a two-week "boot camp" for future decision makers eager to join the sustainability and energy revolution happening around the globe. Held annually since 2011, the program is held at the at the University of Illinois at Chicago. During weekdays, SISE'ers participate in high-level talks, visit energy and sustainability sites, and network. During evenings and weekends, they work collaboratively on a research project and enjoy exploring Chicago.
