Winter quarter is underway, and the sustainability events calendar is full of lectures, student organization meetings, volunteer opportunities and more. We've listed a few of the top options this week below, and you can always check out our calendar for a comprehensive listing of events. Three math professors who always wanted to try building a game but never had the time. A graphic designer thinking about taking a digital game design program next year. A graduate student in statistics who is passionate about sustainable river management. These are just a few of the stories of the people who participated in the UW Sustainability Game Jam on Nov. 11-12. Their mission: to design a game that engaged a wider community on a topic or concept related to sustainability – all in one weekend.
If you're interested in games and the environment, sign up for the Sustainability Game Jam this weekend. Inviduals and teams will work Nov. 11-12 to create game concepts and prototypes that promote sustainability.
Take a big breath and sit back, midterm season is finally over!
Perhaps it's just me, but I often get overwhelmed by the sheer number of events and activities there are to do on campus. It's a double-edged sword as there are so many fascinating speakers, seminars, and fairs to attend, but it's hard to narrow down exactly which ones to pay attention to from the never-ending list.
The November session of our monthly Green Certification Workshop Wednesday will be November 1 at 1:30 - 2 p.m. in Gerberding Hall room G26. These Workshop Wednesdays are monthly open presentation and discussion sessions on the Green Office and Green Lab certifications.
The first Washington & Oregon Higher Education Sustainability Conference (WOHESC) will be held February 6-8, 2018, at Portland State University. The conference is looking for a UW student Campus Ambassador to promote the conference and represent the University of Washington at WOHESC.

Join us for the upcoming Green Certification Workshop Wednesday on Sept. 6 from 1:30 - 2 p.m. in Gerberding Hall room G26 (one floor down from the Red Square entrance).
The UW Athletics green team needs volunteers to be a part of the football game day sustainability team. Volunteers will play a major role in helping us reach our waste diversion goal of 80% this season. As a volunteer, you will engage with fans to encourage sustainable practices in the stadium and in the tailgate areas. After halftime, you are welcome to stay and watch the remainder of the game.
Students who are interested in green building, sustainability, equity issues, and more can volunteer for the Built Green Conference at Cascadia College on September 14 for the opportunity to attend sessions and network with green building professionals.
