Read the UW's Sustainability Action Plan

The University of Washington has finalized its new Sustainability Action Plan, which will guide the university’s efforts during the next five years.

The Sustainability Action Plan includes five guiding principles and 10 measurable targets along with annual actions to reach those targets. Each year, the UW will evaluate the immediate actions needed over the next fiscal year to respond to changing realities and needs across our campuses.

UW joins investor networks to combat climate change

The University of Washington recently joined two membership organizations focused on climate change and carbon reduction.  The UW is now a signatory to CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) and a member of CERES' Investor Network on Climate Risk.

These memberships are part of the UW Treasury Office&'s Global Climate Change Initiatives, approved by the Board of Regents in November 2013. Treasury's Climate Change Initiatives include an initiative to explore opportunities for shareholder advocacy on climate change.

The University of Washington Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability office has produced its latest report highlighting key achievements in UW sustainability. The Environmental Stewardship Committee and Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability office are featured, as well as UW's sustainability awards, efforts and achievements.

International award cites UW for leadership in sustainability

The University of Washington is one of four universities worldwide, and the only one from the United States, named this week as a Sustainable Campus Excellence Award winner by the International Sustainable Campus Network.

The awards, presented June 3 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, recognize sustainable campus projects that demonstrate leadership, creativity, effectiveness and performance in the areas of building, campus, integration and student leadership.

Sustainability Tour

University of Washington is a vibrant green campus, and it’s not just because spring has sprung! Over the next two weeks you’ll likely come across one of our Sustainability Tour sandwich boards featuring spots on campus that are engaged in one of our many ongoing sustainable initiatives. The hope is that these boards will inform touring prospective students and families that sustainability and environmental stewardship are deeply rooted on campus, as well as engage the community in some green Husky pride.

UW's Climate Action Plan Signed Into Effect

The University’s Climate Action Plan (CAP) was finalized and signed by President Emmert earlier this month, meeting it’s Sept. 15 deadline. The Environmental Stewardship Advisory Committee (ESAC) called for student feedback on a working draft of the plan last spring. “Climate change is a critical issue affecting our environment locally, regionally and globally,” said members of ESAC Sandra Archibald and Ruth Johnston in an e-mail to The Daily.
