The Special Olympics USA Games will be coming to Seattle this summer July 1-6. More than 4,000 athletes and coaches will be staying in the North and West residence halls on the UW Seattle campus and eight of the fourteen Special Olympics USA Games events will be held on campus. Special Olympics USA Games needs volunteers to make sure that the USA Games are a success and that the athletes, their families and spectators have a great time.
The University of Washington will be well-represented at the upcoming Washington & Oregon Higher Education Sustainability Conference (WOHESC), taking place February 6-8 at Portland State University.
The annual SustainableUW Festival celebrates sustainability efforts at the University of Washington, highlighting the amount and breadth of contributions and leadership efforts across campus as well as providing opportunities for students, faculty and staff to get involved. UW Sustainability partners with departments, student groups and organizations to present events across all three University of Washington campuses during the festival.

The central UW Earth Day celebration, organized by UW Earth Club in collaboration with UW Sustainability, will take place on Red Square on April 21. The theme for this year's Earth Day is "One World," which emphasizes the connections between all of us and the natural environment.
UW Sustainability is supporting a group of students, faculty, staff, and alumni from across the UW arts to launch a new initiative on our campuses called Sustainability in the Arts (SITA). The initiative will explore current and potential sustainability operations or 'behind the scenes' efforts in the arts, as well as explore how sustainability themes can be incorporated into the content of creative works.

Hundreds of community members and students gathered on red square in honor of the 46th anniversary of Earth Day at the University of Washington.
“It’s important to spread awareness about how involved the UW is in making our campus more environmentally friendly,” said junior Itzel Medina, one of the many students who came to celebrate the event. “Sustainability really matters.”
The University of Washington is celebrating Earth Day with a centerpiece large Red Square event on April 22, featuring exhibitors, music, speakers, sustainable food samples and more.
The Red Square festivities will be the most visible, but they are just one piece of the larger celebration at the University of Washington. Events around Earth Day start on April 13 and continue through April 23, when the UW Botanic Gardens and the Student Conservation Association host a work party at the Washington Park Arboretum.
