Transportation services “hearts” ridesharing this week

Transportation services and U-PASS are showing some love to campus carpoolers and vanpoolers during “We Heart Rideshare Week” with rideshare care packages filled with fun and educational treats.

To receive a care package just stop by any staffed campus gatehouse between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. in either an existing vanpool or carpool with a valid permit, or by purchasing a daily carpool permit on the spot.

College of Built Environments unveils green wall

A wall of vegetation now climbs the south side of Gould Hall, after the opening of the Biodiversity Green Wall and Edible Green Screen on Monday.

The sustainable, vertical wall creates more efficient methods in plant growth, water circulation, and biodiversity. The wall was a collaborative project within the UW College of Built Environments’ Green Futures Lab (GFL).

“The idea to build the Green Wall was inspiring,” said Leann Andrews, lab manager at GFL.

Energy a focus of third annual Sustainability Summit

Next week will be the University of Washington’s third Sustainability Summit, an annual event that celebrates leadership and accomplishments in environmental stewardship and sustainability.

A day of Sustainability Summit events Wednesday, Oct. 24, will culminate in the evening with a conversation about energy involving a leading Northwest energy and climate expert, Microsoft’s chief environmental strategist and other panelists.
