Environmental Stewardship & Sustainability
Sept. 23, 2014

There are lots of ways to learn about sustainability efforts at the University of Washington this week at Dawg Daze while having fun, finding new spots on campus and getting a chance to win prizes.

The Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability office is teaming up with UW Recycling this Wednesday and Thursday on Red Square during the Dawg Daze student activities fair. Stop by our table for sustainability-themed games, prizes and lots of green fun. Environmentally-passionate staff and students will share their knowledge and enthusiasm for all the good green stuff going on around campus and demonstrate how students can positively impact the UW with energy conservation, reducing water usage, what to do with that coffee cup, and more. Join interactive and informative events such as a recycling relay and who knows, you might get caught green-handed and win a prize!

Also, look for the Campus Sustainability Fund (CSF) table and learn more about student-funded sustainability projects around campus. The CSF is also leading a bike tour on Friday of student-led sustainable projects on campus, including a biodiversity green wall, DIY bike repair stations, owl boxes, the new UW Farm greenhouse, and many more. The tour starts at 4 p.m. at the bike racks north of Johnson Hall, and will finish at the Botany Greenhouse around 5 p.m.

Before Saturday's Husky football game you can also help clean up campus with UW SEED. The student group is throwing a Husky pride scavenger hunt combined with a campus clean up competition, and groups who pick up the most trash will win prizes.

Or you can head to the Botany Greenhouse Saturday afternoon from 2-5 p.m. and join in a pizza bake hosted by the UW Student Food Co-op, the UW Real Food Challenge and the UW Farm. Bring your favorite pizza topping, make pizza in the wood-fired oven and stay for music and square dancing.

Even after Dawg Daze, there are lots of ways to get involved with sustainability on campus. You can start by browsing our list of evironmental student groups at UW and finding one that works for you!
