Husky Sustainability Awards

Please help us recognize the students, faculty, staff and groups who have made an impact for sustainability at the University of Washington.

In support of the UW’s long-standing commitment to sustainability, the Husky Sustainability Awards recognize exemplary achievement of an individual or team from the UW community who have demonstrated leadership, initiative and dedication to campus sustainability.

Students, faculty, staff and groups from any of the UW campuses are eligible for the award, and any member of the UW community can submit a nomination.

The 2024 nomination deadline is May 1st.

The Husky Sustainability Awards recognize individuals or teams at the University of Washington who have demonstrated leadership, impact, initiative, and dedication to sustainability.

These awards are open to students, faculty, staff and groups from any UW campus or unit. Contributions toward environmental or climate justice, environmental sustainability, equity and diversity, and other aspects included in the UW’s definition of sustainability are encouraged.

Any member of the UW community can submit a nomination. Nominations should include enough information for the selection committee to understand the full scope of a nominee’s achievements. Effort will be made to recognize winners that represent the broad diversity of the University, such as identifying awardees across all campuses, as well as students, staff and faculty members.

Award criteria

  • Impact - Work that will have a lasting effect and create change at the University.
  • Leadership – Demonstrated ability developing, garnering support for and implementing a sustainability project. 
  • Initiative – Efforts far above and beyond normal duties to promote sustainability.
  • Dedication – Sustained effort over time to maximize impact.

Nomination submissions should include a description of how an individual or team from the UW community demonstrated campus sustainability at the Seattle, Tacoma or Bothell campuses. When possible, please include descriptions of measurable outcomes resulting from the nominee's actions, as well as descriptions of collaborations and efforts to engage the broader community in sustainability efforts.

Please provide information about the nominee's sustainability impact, dedication, initiative and leadership. Nominations should describe in some detail the work done by the individual or group and speak to all criteria.

Please describe how this individual or group has made an impact in advancing sustainability at the University of Washington. You should provide enough detail for the selection committee to understand the full scope of the impact, generally at least 200 words.
Please describe how this individual or group has shown dedication to sustainability at the University of Washington. Nominees should show a sustained effort over time to maximize impact, including efforts to build community support and involvement through awareness and outreach activities.
