This Spring, UW Recycling staff guest-taught students in the Nutritional Sciences 302 Food Systems class - led by faculty member Yona Sipos - regarding the composting process and how to sort compostable materials on campus. The students were then given an assignment to think about ways the University of Washington could reduce food waste.

Students who are getting ready to move out of residence halls or U District housing often have extra items as they pack up. UW Recycling makes it easy to keep those items out of the trash and ensure they go to someone who needs them.
Students can work on creating innovative solutions to environmental problems as part of the Environmental Innovation Practicum offered by the Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship. The goal of the practicum is to help students discover how cleantech solutions are addressing pressing environmental issues, and learn how they can be part of those solutions.
UW's 2019 Earth Week events included a focus on action, equity, diversity and environmental justice. The central event was Earth Day 2019 on April 22 at the Husky Union Building.
UW Sustainability is looking for a student graphic design assistant starting in mid-June 2019. This is a part-time position for a current UW student. The graphic design assistant will work closely with the UW Sustainability team to develop marketing communications materials that educate and engage the UW community regarding sustainability programs and initiatives.
For the first time in six years, UW Recycling held a Trash-In to determine how much compostable and recyclable material is thrown out instead of diverted from the landfill at University of Washington.
The UW Program on the Environment and the Seattle Public Library are hosting an evening with Bill McKibben on May 2 in Kane Hall 120 at 7:30 p.m. McKibben will discuss his new book, Falter.
